Mandarin Chinese is the official language of the People’s Republic of China. It is one of the oldest languages in the world and has more native speakers than any other language. About 1.4 billion people speak Mandarin as their first language, and about 30 million as their second language. Except mainland China and Taiwan, where Mandarin is the official language, Mandarin is also one of the four official languages in Singapore, and one of the six official languages in United Nation. Mandarin has also influenced many other languages. Borrowed words and similar writing systems can be found in Japanese, Korean, and Vietnamese
